On Tuesday, 17 May, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science hosted a joint event of GIST project and EURADA (European Association of Development Agencies) Digitalisation Working Group, organised by the Styrian Technology Park, which was attended by 42 people in person and more than 60 people online.
The event included presentations on good practices in digitisation, where the following speakers presented digital innovation hubs both in Slovenia and in other European countries: dr Muhamed Turkanović, dr Emilija Stojmenova Duh, dr Tamas Gyulai, Borut Zrim, mag. Matej Borko. These presentations were followed by two roundtable discussions:
– Regional solutions for the implementation of follow-up funding schemes
Tomislav Plesec – Simora (Croatia)
Danitsa Yanakieva – RIC Gabrovo (Bulgaria)
Ingrid Meijer – Oost NL (Netherlands)
Tanja Senekovič – Štajerski Tehnološki Park (Slovenia)
Davorka Moslavac Forjan – ICENT (Croatia)

– Regional challenges for digitalisation of SMEs
Dr. Muhamed Turkanović – Associate Professor, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor
Mag. Jure Verhovnik – Independent Associate, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana
Matjaž Fras, MSc – Director of Styrian Technology Park
It was pointed out that due to the lack of systemic means to promote digital transformation, the support environment is unable to provide smooth and continuous quality support to economic entities, which do not achieve a breakthrough due to the lack of knowledge of the topic and the lack of staff to take care of the digital development of the company.

The next two days, 18. and 19. May, were dedicated to a study visit to the GIST project, where the partnership, which alongside Štajerski tehnološki park also includes the Karlsruhe Institut für Technologie (Germany), Centro Tecnológico del Mueble Y la Madera (Spain), Globalnet (Poland), Institut za razvoj međunarodnih odnosa (Croatia) and InnovaWood (Belgium), conducted a tour of the laboratories of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana, the XR Community of the Ljubljana Technology Park, the testing laboratories of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Maribor, the internationally accredited study programmes of the Academia Higher Professional School and, finally, the VEGA Supercomputer at IZUM in Maribor.

On the basis of the presented and live demonstrations of good practices, the project partnership will develop high-quality online learning programmes that will contribute to raising the digital competences of existing and future staff in the field of digital transformation.
